The 10-Minute Walk After Dinner: What the Research Actually Says
Not a workout. A habit with an outsized return.
By Real Breakthroughs Staff
Short walks after meals keep showing up in studies for a reason. Muscles pull sugar out of the blood while they move, which blunts the spike that follows a big dinner. Ten minutes is enough to see it.
Why after dinner
Dinner is usually the largest meal and the one followed by the longest stretch of sitting. Moving right after it, rather than an hour later, is when the effect is biggest.
What it is not
It is not a replacement for exercise, and it does not undo a meal. It is a small lever that is easy to pull every day, which is the only kind of lever most people keep pulling.
How to keep it
Tie it to something that already happens: the dishes go in, the shoes go on. Bring the kids or the dog. The point is consistency, not pace.
